If going to the Rodeo isn't on your calendar this year, it doesn't mean you have to miss out on all the festivities. You can throw your own hoedown complete with BBQ, prizes and more.
Debbie Elias recommends having the food catered from the best in Houston – Demeris, who won “Best Bites Grand Reserve Champion” for their barbecue at this year's Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
But while you may not be cooking, one thing you could do is ask your guests to bring a bottle or jar of homemade barbecue sauce and have a “taste off.” The grand prize winner would receive a prize.
For family-oriented parties, Elias recommends incorporating games. One such idea is to get cowboy hats or cowboy boot mugs, along with some cowboy and Indian plastic figurines. Have the kids throw the figurines into the hats or mugs and the one who makes the most gets a grand prize. Another idea is to get a piñata, which kids and adults alike will enjoy. Fill it with candy and toys and everyone will be happy.
Don't forget to send out invitations and set the mood with tablecloths and dishes, which you can stock up on at Party Warehouse. And don't forget to add some trimmings that you might already have at home. For example, you can use an old boot as a vase. Put in some pretty stems and tie a bandana around it and you've got a chic centerpiece.
