The regional history series Postcards from Texas has been named the recipient of two major statewide awards. The Texas Historical Commission has selected Postcards for the 2009 Award of Excellence in Media Achievement. A few days later in the week, the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution named Postcards from Texas as the winner of their 2009-2010 Media Award for the State of Texas.
Postcards from Texas, an ambitious weekly series, covers all aspects of the history of Houston and the southeast Texas region. The program airs at 4 p.m. on Sundays. Episodes rerun the following Friday at 1:30 p.m. Find stories from the show, additional information and links to all things history right here online.
Production of Postcards from Texas requires the involvement of most museums, archives and historical societies in the area. Show producer, Mike Vance, elaborates: "We work hard to ensure that everyone finds something of interest in each episode and to see that the show remains both educational and fun. This type of statewide recognition for our efforts is very gratifying to our production team. We're very proud."
The production partner for Postcards from Texas is Houston Arts and Media, a local non-profit which works to educate Houstonians about their history. HAM is online at houstonartsandmedia.org.
