With a berth to the Regional Finals on the line, Pearland Dawson raced its way to a 27-20 hard-fought victory over the Crosby Cougars earning them this week's distinction of being named the U.S. Army Strong Team of the Week.
"The game was so fun," running back Xavier Brown said. "The crowd was into it. It was one of the best games I ever played in."
While the Eagles brought home a win, quarterback Darian Lazard had a spectacular game with four touchdowns.
"It was a hard-fought game," Lazard said. "Crosby is a great team – I'll give them credit for that. But our team made big plays at the right time. Our offensive line did a great job blocking down field so all the credit to them."
For the season, Lazard has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards and rushed for over 1,100 yards.
"You can't ever go wrong giving it to No. 2," Coach Eric Wells said. "He's our inspirational leader. The whole team looks up to him. He's a big reason why we're where we are."
And where the Eagles are is in the Regional Finals in just its second season as a varsity program.
"It just feels really good," defensive back David Farris said. "It just feels really good that all our hard work really does pay off."
