High School Sports Live Team of the Week

Klein Collins Tigers

With their emotional double overtime victory over Westfield, the Klein Collins Tigers are undefeated and were named this week's U.S. Army Strong Team of the Week.

For the first time in school history, the Tigers beat the Mustangs in a physical battle between two top-notch teams.

"It was a huge game," Coach Drew Svoboda said. "The emotions that were running through the stands and the football team at the end of the game – you could just feel it.

"We knew it was going to be an extremely physical football game but to beat those guys … they're a great football team with a lot of tradition. It was huge for Klein Collins."

The huge game was an incredible one that was decided until the final play of the second overtime. The Tigers, who were up by seven, stopped Mustangs quarterback Jacoby Walker just short of the first down they needed to keep the game going.

"It was just amazing," linebacker Sam Shaw said. "There was just so much emotion running throughout the entire place. It was just a great night."

"We played a lot of really (strong) opponents, and we matched their intensity," Svoboda said. "It was a huge crowd. It was homecoming so we definitely rose to the occasion that night."

The Tigers have been rising to the occasion all season long. With the win over Westfield, Klein Collins continues their perfect season with an 8-0 record, making them one of only four Class 5A teams in greater Houston who remain unbeaten this late in the season.

"When we were sophomores, we watched our varsity go 1-9," guard Dylan Rup said. "We knew we (weren't) going to do that our senior year. We're going to come out and win some games."

And win they have!
