High School Sports Live Athlete of the Week

K.C. Nlemchi

As the Cinco Ranch Cougars ran over their opponent to earn a berth to the Regional Finals, running back K.C. Nlemchi was running circles around the field, rushing for 241 yards and three touchdowns earning him the honor of Athlete of the Week.

"He has stepped up all year but this one we needed (him) to step out early on them, and he did," Coach Don Clayton said. "We got up 21-0 in the first quarter."

Nlemchi credits the offensive line with helping him to do "his part" on the field.

"We've got a great O-line," Nlemchi said. "They did their part."

Nlemchi has done his part all season, rushing for 2,100 yards and 25 touchdowns in 13 games.

So what makes him a tremendous athlete?

"His work ethic," Clayton said. "He's got some serious desire to be the best he can be. More importantly, he's a great teammate."

"It's not just about the season, it's about the seniors too because it could be their last year of playing football so we want to end it on a good note," Nlemchi said.

With Nlemchi blazing the way on the field, the Cougars have advanced to the Regional Finals for the first time in school history.

"You hate to say what you expected and what you didn't expect and after last year we lost a lot of talent, but the great about this group is they bonded extremely well," Clayton said. "We may not be as talented individually but team wise, this group is just doing a great job of coming together and rallying."
