DeKaney sophomore running back Trey Williams had a special game against Westfield, rushing for 362 yards and four touchdowns in the upset 47-39 victory over the previously undefeated Mustangs.
"He played a fantastic game," Coach Willie Amendola said. "The whole team effort was great, and Trey's contribution was huge obviously. He's a special running back."
"It felt great," Williams said. "(We) just did our thing."
Williams was definitely doing his job all night long, with two of his touchdown runs going for more than 60 yards.
"He's got a great combination of elusiveness and speed and toughness," Amendola said. "He can make you miss an open space, and he can outrun you to the goal line. He's quite a gifted young man."
The win over the powerful Westfield team was especially huge considering that this is just DeKaney's second season of varsity football. After going 0-9 last year, they stand at 3-1.
"It's a big lift for our program," Amendola said. "It kind of validates all the hard work we've been putting in for the last three years. It was our first homecoming and our first district game with a senior class. It was a special time for the whole school."
