The Katy Tigers have had a great year. First their football team brought home the state title and now the boys soccer team has earned their first-ever berth to the 5A State Soccer Tournament.
Much thanks goes to goal keeper John Huttenhoff, who guarded the goal against the Westside Wolves and shut them out through regulation and two overtime periods. The Tigers went on to beat the Wolves 2-1 in a shootout.
This is a long time coming for the team after going winless just three years ago.
"It's been great," Huttenhoff said. "We have a bunch of juniors on the team so the team next year is going to be amazing.
"This year has just been fantastic," Huttenhoff continued. "Some of these guys were on the team three years ago when we didn't win a single game. We went from nothing to being in the State playoffs now."
In the regional playoffs, Huttenhoff was nothing short of spectacular posting a trio of shutouts and only allowing two goals in the Tigers' five postseason wins.
"John's been great," Midfielder Matthew Paquette said. "I think he's the best at keeper, I think, in the state right now. He's just so phenomenal at it."
