With an 11-3 record, 22 homeruns so far this season and a state ranking of No. 7, the Memorial Mustangs baseball team can make a case for being named Team of the Week, but there is one special player who deserves to be called out – Michael Ratterree.
Ratterree hit an 8th inning grand slam to help the Mustangs beat rivals Stratford Spartans 8-4.
"I was just trying to put something in play and got a hold of it," Ratterree said. "It was great for our team. It put us on top in district. It's exciting."
Exciting doesn't even begin to describe the kind of ball Ratterree is playing this year. He's hitting close to .500 for the season with four homeruns in just 14 games. Last year, the shortstop had 14 homeruns and 41 RBIs.
"If you're pitching to him, he's pretty good," Coach Jeremy York said. "He's a good little hitter, always doing quality work on his own and always working extremely hard. That's what it takes to be a good hitter – work your craft every day."
