Strake Jesuit has been perfect this season with a 29-0 record. And Joey Brooks has been a significant contributor to the team's success.
He seemed nearly flawless as he scored 33 points against Elsik, but when asked about how thrilled he was by his successes, Brooks was more than humble.
"I was more thrilled about the win," Brooks said. "As long as we get the win, I'm happy."
Just three days after playing Elsik, the Cavaliers defeated Alief Taylor.
Coach Wayne Jones credits Brooks with coming up big in the fourth quarter.
"He finished the game for us," Jones said.
Joey has made a verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame and is joined on the court by two other Division 1 signees, Tim Frazier and Steven Rogers.
The Cavaliers lineup is full of talent and unselfish players.
"I'm going to lay my heart on the line for these guys behind me," Brooks said.
"They step it up for every game," Jones said. "They practice hard, and they play hard."
Strake Jesuit is currently ranked No. 1 in Class 5A basketball and is undefeated on the season.
