Athlete of the Week

DeWayne Wade

North Forest senior point guard, DeWayne Wade, is on fire. Averaging 24 points a game, Wade is tied as the leading scorer in Class 4A, which in turn has helped North Forest win the last 11 games.

Wade believes his success, along with the team's, is due in large part to simply working hard.

"It's just been a lot of hard work," Wade said. "I've been trying to work as hard as I can in and out of practice every day."

Not only has the team come together after competing as rivals – Smiley and Forest Brook High School merged this year into North Forest – but they've lost key players and dealt with a number of injuries. But the team is on top thanks to Wade pushing them, according to Coach James Norman.

"He gets them ready," Norman said. "He jumps on them. He pushes them. Whatever it takes."

Whatever it takes it seems is teamwork and togetherness.

"We're better together," Wade said. "We're better than apart."
